Diwali 2022

Diwali – Let the spark lit your spirit

The Festival of Lights has conquered our households. The gratified festival of all times has arrived and it is a blissful blessing to celebrate the same with our family and friends. This celebration is rightly named as Diwali or Deepavali as it is synonymous with joy and victory. The streets are filled with shops that often look crowded. Children are in cloud-nine to light the fire crackers and share the joy with their friends. Celebrated all around the globe by the Indians, Diwali is cherished for the positive spirit that it adds to our lives.

History behind Diwali

Different religions recognise Diwali and attribute a particular origin to the event. Diwali is known as the day when Lord Rama, his wife Sita Devi, and his brother Lakshmana returned to their home after 14 years of exile and the defeat of the evil king, Ravana, according to one of the central events in Hindu mythology. The reason why diyas are lit at Diwali today is because when they came back, the people lit a way for Rama.

A different story said  that Diwali, derived from Hindu mythology, claims that Diwali commemorates the day on which Lord Krishna vanquished the demon Narakasura to set the inhabitants of his country free. After the loss, Krishna proclaimed the day a holiday, which is why people will burn incense in some parts of India.

During Diwali, the Hindu goddess Lakshmi is also honoured as a symbol of wealth, fertility, and prosperity. According to legend, Lakshmi married Lord Vishnu, one of Hinduism's most revered deities, on the eve of Diwali.

Celebration of Diwali

The holiday is celebrated for up to five days, as was already indicated. Small clay lamps illuminated with oil or electric lights will be used to beautify and clean homes and businesses. People trade confections. Numerous towns and villages will host fairs. Since traditional lunar calendars can be interpreted in a variety of ways, the holiday is observed on diverse dates around the nation. For instance, in Tamil Nadu, Deepavali is celebrated during the Tamil month of Aippasi.

Why do we celebrate Diwali?

The holidays are the first and foremost bliss in this festive occasion. Busy streets and lighted houses are the keys to positivity throughout the year. The new movie release for Diwali adds to the entertainment value of this delightful festival. Friends and relatives from other cities and countries visit their hometowns for celebrations. The last but not the least reason is to share our joy with sweets and snacks from our home to our loved ones and neighbours.

The Five-day Festival Of Diwali

  • For the majority of Indian enterprises, the first day marks the beginning of the new fiscal year. For money, the business class worships the goddess Lakshmi.
  • The second day is dedicated to purging. People dress new and take oil baths.
  • The new moon occurs on the third day. The Deepavali holiday's first day is today.
  • The Kartika Shudda Padyami falls on the fourth day.
  • The fifth day, which marks the festival's conclusion, symbolises the affection between sisters and brothers.
