Ramzan

Ramzan and the belief behind it!

Muslims hold the belief that the angel Gabriel appeared to Prophet Muhammad in the year 610 A.D. and revealed the Quran, the Islamic holy book, to him. The "Night of Power," or Laylat Al Qadar, is thought to have happened during Ramadan. During that month, Muslims fast to honour the Quran's revelation.

How is Ramzan celebrated?

On Eid morning, Muslims dress up in their best, often brand-new garments, and many adorn their homes, greet one another by exchanging embraces and exclaiming "Eid Mubarak," which means "Good Eid". This is done to instill a sense of goodwill and unity. People have feast together with their families and relatives.

When is Ramzan celebrated?

Ramadan, Arabic Ramaḍān, in Islam, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting. It begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon. Because the Muslim calendar year is shorter than the Gregorian calendar year, Ramadan begins 10–12 days earlier each year, allowing it to fall in every season throughout a 33-year cycle.

    Tradition behind Ramzan

The head of each family is expected to pay a charitable tax, known as Fitra or Zakat Al Fitr, during the last days of Ramadan to help those who are less affluent celebrate the festival. Even when they are celebrating, muslims must remember that there are families in the larger community who are struggling, so that no one is left out.
